Non Violent Civil Disobedience against East African Crude Oil Pipeline in 2024

Students are taking on the government of Uganda, Total Energies and Chinese CNOOC LTD against constructing what would be the world’s longest heated oil pipeline project stretching from the Albertein region in Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania.
Throughout 2023, mass recruitment, mobilization and trainings have happened across different universities equipping a critical mass of students activists with sufficient knowledge on how to step up in civil disobedience against EACOP.

National Institutions such as Parliament of Uganda have been targeted on several occasions with most recent protest march where 7 of our supporters were brutally arrested on 24th November 2023 for engaging in non violent direct action as they marched in an attempt to deliver a petition to the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda demanding the government of Uganda, Total Energies and the Chinese CNOOC LTD drops Eacop. These were denied bail and were brutally held at Luziira Maximum Security Prisons for 25 days after which they were released on bail on 19th December 2023.

International Solidarity Actions have happened in different parts of the world where different headquarters of Total Energies and the Ugandan Embassies have been targeted. For instance On 27th June 2023, Just Stop Oil students held a solidarity protest at the headquarters of Total Energies in U.K. demanding Total Energies to drop off Eacop and an immediate release of our supporter that had been illegally detained by Ugandan authorities for involving in a protest at the parliament of Uganda at the same day.

In 2024, we intend to double these efforts where key national institutions such as European Union Embassy in Uganda, Parliament of Uganda, Total Energies will be targeted by our supporters accompanied with interfering with key national infrastructure such as traffic obstruction and public disruptions to create more attention to this crisis humanity has ever faced in modern history

Our success story is only possible once we continuously engage in non violent civil disobedience against the oil pipeline and yes progress to our efforts has been registered so far with 24 banks and 22 insurance companies have committed not to funding Eacop. The pipeline construction has also been delayed for atleast One year as Total Energies and government of Uganda grapples with securing the $10 billion dollars needed to finance their plans.
